Sorry. It’s been a long week since coming back from vacation.
Caught up at work after being away for a couple of weeks, lost a friend to cancer after a two year battle, moved more pavers, brought ourselves up to date with house decisions and my better half’s new 2013 Honda Accord (1,400 miles) stopped steering leaving us stranded. Life returns to normal…
Progress on the house. The siders returned and wrapped up the back and side of the garage. They also set up the scaffolding on the front of the house so they were staged for an early morning start.
I was lucky enough to go by when the electric company was there connecting the wires from the pole to the underground conduit. While there wasn’t much to see (and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have let me ride in the bucket to take pictures if I asked) it’s a step forward to bringing lights to the house. So we now have a connection. No electricity in the house yet, but at least we have a connection. And a meter so we can get a bill once it’s turned on.
I’ve moved a bunch more pavers and now can see the progress with an unorganized pile being moved to neatly stacked pallets. And my back is holding out. So far…
We’re looking forward to this week coming up after last week’s return to normal. I think I’d like a new normal though.

It's changing fast now. The siding and window trim look really good. Was thinking you were putting a deck on the back where that long "blank" wall is. That will break it up a lot, but one of those cute little half-round awnings would look really neat - with or without a deck. You can also break it up with planting, of course.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a break, but sounds like a bad week to return. Let me know if you would like some day lilies. I have a gorgeous coral one that was hybridized here in Richmond. It's very large, hardy and gorgeous. Just about time to divide it....

Thank you. There will be a small deck with the stairs leading down alongside the wall with a landing near the back garage door. This will help break up the wall too. At the bottom, running along the back of the house will be a patio (made out of those gazillion pavers I've been hauling). It will be surrounded by plantings. I need to draw something up and post it.
DeleteDay Lilies are always welcomed! Irises are in with little tags that say "Winn's Iris". I need to pick up some of those metal plant markers. Any ideas? Thank you again.

ReplyDeleteThank you. We wish we could have had the same trim over all of the windows instead of the front only. However it was one of those expense things. Maybe someday in the future we can go back and do it.
DeleteI do miss the dial on the electric meter. Here, there is just a cold and impersonal rotating reading of positive and negative KWH. It is at once both cold/impersonal and a taunt that we don't have any sort of solar panels or ways of selling juice back to the grid. =)
